SAL DETACHMENT COMMANDER
STEVE WARD
We are almost 9 months into our year end and with the concerted effort of all of The Sons of the American Legion we are on track to make our 34th year all time high in membership. We have cleared up many of the goose eggs we had from Squadrons not sending in membership. We have also added new Squadrons this year and are continuing to grow.
When the Sons of the American Legion was formed over 75 years ago we had two major incentives, get new members and retain present members. We have done an outstanding job in getting new members, but lack in the job of retaining present members. We need to work harder in making sure we keep our present members. They need to understand how important our organization is in supporting our numerous programs and our Veterans and how important our members are in achieving these goals.
Speaking of programs, last year we almost made the goal of $ 2.00 per member for Child Welfare. I made this my project this year to make that $ 2.00 mark and we are on target to achieve that goal. I thank all of you in supporting me in this effort and ask all Squadrons to try and donate $ 2.00 per member.
District Conventions will be coming up in the near future and I look forward to attending as many as I can. I ask all of you to make plans to attend your respective District Conventions and support the Sons of the American Legion.
